Nathan interviewed John November 7, 2017.
This is what he learned. John is 74 years old and has 4 children with careers of their own. One is an attorney, one is a city planner, one is a systems analyst and one is a machinist. His favorite animal is an Australian shepherd and he enjoys watching the news on TV. He thinks its an interesting time to be watching politics. He was like an architect. He designed and built around 80 houses for a living before he became a career technical teacher. One thing on his bucket list is to completely rebuild his house from the ground up. He will start the tear down soon. When he gets done with that he wants to build a retirement home on the property next to where he grew up to live out the rest of his days. Wow, that’s pretty rad! ~Nathan |
Gustavo interviews George using Google Translator . September 17, 2017
1- How long have you taught here?
I have been teaching 52 years and I have been at Henderson Bay High School for 17 years. 2- Did you ever have a student who did not understand English? No I have never had a non English speaking student. 3- What ideas do you have to make learning easier for him? This is a hard question. The phone translator is good and Google Translator is also helpful. You will be getting a Spanish biology text book soon so that will also be a help. Maybe I should have learned Spanish when I was a teenager. 4- Is there any help you think the district could provide that would help you? Like I said, you will have a new textbook in Spanish soon and I am going to a meeting this afternoon to learn how to help you better. 5- Why do you like working here when you could have retired years ago? Great question. I really enjoy working with teenagers and also with adults that are very concerned about helping teenagers. Everything about this job is very challenging and it also involves a lot of talk and problem solving regarding young people and their learning. It really is fun and great profession. Good. this was fun. ~Gus |
